Former EastEnders star Lorna Fitzgerald is happy to play a character who ‘knows her own mind’.
The actress plays bubbly Emmeline in British movie The Loss Adjuster, about a hapless insurance man who learns what is important to him after he loses everything in the run up to Christmas.
Lorna, best known for her soap character Abi Branning, relished the differences between the two characters she has played.
She told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think that’s the biggest difference between Emmeline and Abi Branning, compared to what I was used to playing – that silently strong thing. She knows her mind and she’s quietly confident. She doesn’t need to prove herself to anyone.
‘That was great to play because it’s just nice to play someone who’s just who they are. You don’t have to do any insecurities or stuff like that, because Luke was doing that.
It was great playing with Luke and all my scenes are with him. Everybody was so welcoming from Luke to the crew. Sometimes if you’re only in a few scenes, you can feel like the new kid at school, but no they were so friendly which made it easier to play.’

As an actor, lockdown has been a different experience when it comes to auditioning as she now self-tapes from home.
Revealing things were ‘tough’ in terms of acting gigs at the start of the year, Lorna is hopeful for an uptick in 2021.

‘There was the promise of exciting new projects but now it’s just gone really silent. I know I’m not alone that, which there is definitely some solace in.
‘It’s tough for everyone but I am seeing a few people are working which is great. It does make me optimistic that things will reopen again.
‘They have to because people watch TV and they want that escapism you get from film and theatre. I’m optimistic it will happen.’
The Loss Adjuster is out in cinemas in Wales, Scotland and Ireland now, England from December 2, North America from December 1, and on DVD and on demand from November 30.
