Des O’Connor’s wife will recall the sweet moment she met her husband in a special one-off show dedicated to the showman.
ITV will pay a tribute to Des, who tragically died last month, tonight in a one-hour special titled Des O’Connor: The Ultimate Entertainer.
The programme will hear from some of Des’ family and lifelong friends as they celebrate his life and work.
Filming began earlier this year after Des, at 88-years-old, decided to take a well-earned retirement from the spotlight.
With exclusive access to an amazing collection of hundreds of unseen home movies, the programme will give an intimate portrayal of how Des went from Butlins Redcoat to become the ultimate entertainer.
In the show, Des’ wife Jodie Brooke Wilson speaks about the moment she first met her husband.

And it turns out, Des had always been a gentleman.
‘When I first met Des, it was in the car park at Thames Television Studios and I was running late and I was auditioning for Take Your Pick,’ she recalled.

‘I drove straight into this car parking space and I saw the security guy came out to me, “No, no, you can’t park there,” And I was like, “Oh, please, please, I’m running late”.
‘Des drove right up beside me and I didn’t realise that I’d actually parked in his space and Des got out of the car and went, “Oh, it’s okay, she can park there”.’
‘I mean, how could you not fall in love with Des? What a gentleman,’ she added.
