Rufus Hound became the first Dancing On Ice celebrity contestant to be awarded a golden ticket as the 2021 series got underway.
In a new twist for the programme, for the first two episodes the judges will get to hand out a ‘golden ticket’ to one contestant, meaning they are exempt from the public vote and go straight through to the next round.
Speaking about his routine earlier on, he managed to get in a swipe about the government’s U-turn last summer to provide meals for children during the holidays, following a campaign by footballer Marcus Rashford.
He said: ‘I’ve spent most of this year not emotionally stable because the world does not make sense and this does not make more sense of it.
‘We live in a world where the people we elect don’t want to feed hungry children, this is the least mad thing that has happened to me in a long time.’
The comedian and his professional partner Robin Johnstone made their debut during Sunday night’s live show with a video-game themed performance.
Giving his feedback, John said: ‘Just because it was solely a lot of fun and showed a lot of personality, I’ve decided to go for Rufus and Robin.’
Also skating on the night were actor Jason Donovan, Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant, performer Denise Van Outen, reality TV star Rebekah Vardy and rapper Lady Leshurr.
Jason, Joe-Warren, Lady Leshurr and Rebekah are currently joint top of the leaderboard with 25 points out of 40.
However the musician, who rapped during her routine, and her professional partner Brendyn Hatfield will be facing the skate off next week.
Denise meanwhile made her debut on the ice after dislocating her shoulder.
Dancing On Ice continues Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
