A cancer patient, who lost her husband during the coronavirus pandemic, called This Morning for help today as she’s struggling with loneliness in lockdown.
All non-essential shops and pubs have been forced to shut once again, although restaurants can stay open, but for takeaways only.
Speaking to agony aunt Deidre Sanders on Tuesday’s show, Sandra, who is currently battling cancer, explained that she was struggling to cope after her husband’s death.
Holly Willoughby began: ‘Sandra, first of all I am so sorry for the loss of your husband.
‘He passed away during the last lockdown, is that right?’

‘He passed away two months ago,’ Sandra replied.
Holly continued: ‘I am so sorry, this must all be very raw for you. So you’re coming to terms with that and obviously, you’re now on your own, but you also have you own health issues as well.’
‘I live with lymphoma,’ Sandra added.
Holly’s co-host Phillip Schofield chipped in: ‘So you have your own cancer battle going on at the same time?’

‘Yes I do, but the worst thing for me is the loss of my husband really. I can’t come to terms with it.’
Turning to Deidre for advice Holly told her: ‘Let’s get you some help.’
Deidre, who went on to offer Sandra help off-air, explained: ‘This is such early days, I am really really sorry, it’s tragic and I absolutely understand how that you feel that your hearts been torn out of you.
‘It just will take time, there’s nothing that can be instantly done, whether we had lockdown or not, you would still be suffering that terrible bereavement.’
‘Maybe for now, you just have to cry,’ Deidre added. ‘It’s so painful, but tears are there for a purpose and we can’t really hold them back. I just think you have to accept that this is a long, slow process.’
On Monday’s This Morning, one viewer phoned in for help after she explained that she was ‘too depressed to get out of bed’.
The caller called Jo said that her bed was her ‘safe place’ and she willed the day to go by so she could ‘go back to sleep’.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
