Two years after The Big Bang Theory finished on CBS after 12 seasons, the Bernadette actress will front NBC’s sequel to the 80s comedy Night Court alongside original star John Larroquette who is reprising his role as Reinhold Daniel Fielding Elmore.
Night Court followed the chaotic night shifts at a Manhattan municipal court, fronted by judge Harold ‘Harry’ T Stone, played by Harry Anderson.
Melissa will join as ‘unapologetic optimist judge’ Abby Stone, Harry’s daughter, who will follow in her dad’s footsteps to bring order to the the court’s crew of oddballs and cynics, including former night court prosecutor, Fielding.
Night Court not only marks Melissa’s first major TV role since The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019, but she will also executive produce alongside husband Winston Rauch via their After January production company.
Naturally, when Melissa shared the news on Instagram her TBBT co-stars reached out, with Kaley Cuoco posting: ‘Loving this sooooooo much!’ while Kunal Rayyar simply wrote: ‘Beautiful!’

A floored Wil Wheaton, who had a recurring role as himself in the comedy, added: ‘Oh. My. God.’
Melissa has been steering the reboot as a huge fan of the original series which ran from 1984 for nine seasons.
‘My intention was purely to be behind the camera on this project, but my plans quickly changed after falling in love with the incredible script from the brilliant mind of Dan Rubin,’ she said.
‘I couldn’t be more thrilled to join forces with Dan, the immense talent that is John Larroquette, and the two powerhouse institutions of comedy that are NBC and Warner Bros. to bring Night Court back to television.’
Night Court is expected to be released in 2022.
