Spilling the beans on what she has in common with Renee Zellweger’s screen counterpart, she opened up about being greeted by ‘the world’s press’ while wearing nothing but a nightie.
‘As an advocate in court you wear your wig and gown, but it’s what you say that matters, not what you look like,’ the 66-year-old told the cameras.
‘Suddenly I then get thrust into a position where everything was about how I looked.

‘We won [the election], and we’d been up all night and then that next morning he’d gone off to start talking about important things like, you know, forming the cabinet.
‘Suddenly the doorbell rings, and I wasn’t thinking, I just came out in my nightie and as I opened the door and I saw the world’s press outside, and I thought, “Oh my God Tony will kill me for this”. I quickly shut the door again!’

‘Funny thing is, as a spouse of a Prime minister, yes in some ways I was breaking the convention because the assumption of the system was obviously I’d stop working,’ she continued.
‘Back in the 90s, we still weren’t getting women CEOs, women in the cabinet, it was very much a man’s world… It still is really.
‘And I think that’s what Bridget also finds, that you have to fit in with a male workplace that doesn’t really at its heart, take women seriously or think that they should be there.’
Being Bridget Jones celebrated the making of the 1995 rom-com, Bridget Jones’s Diary – an adaptation of Helen Fielding’s books.
Renee took on the titular role, alongside love interests Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, who played Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy respectively.
The original was so popular that it sparked two sequels, with the most recent – Bridget Jones’s Baby – released in 2016.
Being Bridget Jones is available to stream on BBC iPlayer now.
