Beauty and the Beast stars Luke Evans and Josh Gad are set to reunite for a TV series based on their Disney villains Gaston and LeFou.
The eight-part series will serve as a prequel to the fairy tale, set years before the events of the 2017 live-action film where Belle – the titular beauty – meets Beast.
Evans and Gad are reprising their roles and will be joined by Briana Middleton as LeFou’s stepsister Tilly.
According to Disney, the series will see a surprising revelation from Tilly’s past sweep the trio off on an unexpected adventure, unearthing mysteries from the past as the dangers of the present grow.
Expect old friends, new enemies and a toe-tapping tune or two thanks to EGOT winning composer Alan Menken, who is also serving as executive producer.
Gad will also serve as executive producer and writer alongside Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, also serving as co-showrunners.
Four years ago the live action Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson, suggested that LeFou might have feelings for Gaston, despite Gaston being an arrogant, meathead obssessed with Belle.
Director Bill Condon told Attitude at the time: ‘LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston.
‘He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realising that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it.’
‘The studio is sending out a message that this is normal and natural,’ he said.
‘And this is a message that will be heard in every country of the world, even countries where it’s still socially unacceptable or even illegal to be gay.’
LeFou’s sexuality was seemingly hinted at in a brief moment between him and another male character in a dance scene during the film’s final moments.
