During an interview with Lorraine Kelly on Thursday morning, Britain’s Got Talent judge David spoke with pride about Matt’s appearance on this year’s show, with the most recent episode featuring Matt popping out of a cake, the top of his head painted to look like a glacier cherry.
‘He is brilliant on it, him and Noel have such a wonderful chemistry,’ David, 49, said.
‘He is thrilled, he’s really loving it. I think he’s brought something really fresh to the show, because he’s kind of brought his silliness.’

The children’s book author then explained what he believes is a key element of Matt’s success on this year’s show, which he said is also an important aspect of being a comedian.
‘The thing about Matt is – something that we’ve talked about – he has absolutely no vanity and he says it’s very important for a comedian to have no vanity because as a comedian you’re always making yourself look silly,’ he said.
‘Some comedians – I won’t mention any names – but some do have a bit of vanity, they don’t let themselves go. But Matt is like no, if you want to dress me up like a cake, yeah. I’m there.’
David also admitted to Lorraine that he feels ‘quite jealous’ of Matt being in the Great British Bake Off tent.
‘You are in a lovely tent with Paul Hollywood eating cakes all day, I can’t think of anything better,’ he said.
Lorraine airs on ITV weekdays at 9am, while The Great British Bake Off returns to Channel 4 at 8pm on Tuesday evening.
