American Idol star Avalon Young has revealed she’s been diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 26 and needs help funding her surgery.
The singer, who competed on the 15th season of the US competition show in 2016 and finished in the top eight, shared that doctors discovered the illness after a series of seizures and other medical issues.
Avalon underwent a 16-hour surgery in February to remove the tumour, which was the size of a peach, and is set to go in to hospital for another procedure at the end of the month.
A GoFundMe Page has been set up in Avalon’s name to help cover her healthcare bills and so far more than $37,000 (£26,600) has been raised out of a goal of $100,000 (£72,000).
‘Avalon has minimal insurance, is an independent artist, and self-supporting singer/ songwriter,’ the description reads. ‘We hope to help her with some of the financial burden as a result of these medical expenses.’
On Wednesday, the fundraiser organiser posted that Avalon’s second surgery has been set for May 27.

‘Our Doctor is meeting with Tumour Board at UCSD Friday to confirm the best surgical method for the upcoming procedure,’ an update read. ‘He has suggested Laser Surgery to remove more of the remaining tumour, located in two different sections of her brain.
‘Radiation and chemotherapy will follow. We are confident our Medical Team will continue to perform miracles and Avalon will recovery quickly.
‘Avalon has also been working in the studio and made the announcement today she is releasing the single from her new project on April 30th.’
Avalon shared her diagnosis with her fans in February and said she had ‘really struggled’ with how to tell them.
‘this will not change anything about me or music in any way,’ she penned. ‘just need a few weeks to recover.’ (sic).
