Hasn’t it happened to you more than once? You sit down to write an article for your blog, talk about the topic in question, write and edit a lot, and publish it… But that post does not have the impact you expected. Why?
Many people talk about the infallible formula for writing an excellent article for a blog. I prefer to talk about things that can work because, in most cases, it has worked. In this post, I will talk about 7 steps that, if you take correctly, your articles will most likely start to stand out and become more attractive. Shall we start?
We’ve told you before about the enormous advantages of having an active blog for your business. We insist on this because the benefits are great and can be of great interest to you and your brand. But yes, having a blog is not just writing from time to time. You have to do it regularly and do it well, so pay attention!
1. Think of a topic or an idea
First of all, stop and think about what you want to talk to your audience. Whatever your business is about, there are always topics to write an article about. But there is one requirement: they must be related to the products or services. It’s not the first time I have come across businesses that talk about totally different things on their blog to gain more traffic. And this is absurd! You are making it worse because the traffic that comes to your website is not interested in you at all.
If you have a dance studio, you can’t write an article titled: “Where can IÂ write my paper for cheap?”. It seems obvious, but you would be surprised at the number of blogs of this type that I come across.
2. Write an attractive title
A catchy headline will grab readers’ attention. Some of the keys to getting a good one are:
- Use keywords
- Solving a problem or issue
- Explaining a success or failure story
- Targeting a specific audience
3. Write a super introduction
This, in addition to the title, is also crucial when writing an article. Why? If a reader starts reading your post and doesn’t find what he sees interesting, he will stay on your blog for less than a day. Avoid this by creating an introduction of interest that provides value and advances something that they can continue to enjoy if they keep reading.
Try to do that by generating expectations and explaining to the reader everything he will learn and experience thanks to your post. This will generate curiosity in him, and you will surely get him to continue reading it.
4. Include visual content
It is essential. As you already know (and more and more), visual elements make any content on the Internet win. And for writing an article, it would not be less. Improve your post by inserting some images, gifs, or videos where you see fit.
An image is much easier to assimilate than written content, which will make people read your blog for the photos and the content published in general. How many visual elements should you include? They recommend one image every 350 words, but this is very variable.
It is a perfect way to make your article much more attractive and to generate empathy with the reader, which is also very important for them to share it afterward.
5. Keyword, keyword, keyword
If you want your blog to be positioned on Google, the most important thing is that you always have a keyword in mind when writing an article. Choose one that fits the topic and has a good volume of searches (without going overboard). Once you have it, repeat it many times throughout the post. I recommend using it 2-3 times every 100 words. This way, you will have more chances to move up in the search engines. But don’t overdo it. Google rewards naturalness, and if you put it in a forced way, you will indeed be penalized.Â
6. Extra, extra!
When writing an article, you should also think of extra material to offer your potential reader. It’s another way to get their attention and increase the chances of sharing it with their network. Two good examples are links and share buttons.
Links will make you provide the reader with additional information to what you are telling him so that his reading is as complete as possible. This is especially appreciated if they are interested in the topic you are talking about.
On the other hand, sharing buttons on social networks is essential for your content to go viral. Or at least to reach as many people as possible. You make life easier for people since otherwise, they would have to copy the link and paste it into the social network where they want to share it and add a comment. With the buttons, you save them all that. It is obvious that without them, many people would never share anything. We are lazy by nature!
7. Conclusion and call to action
I’m sure you still remember when you were told in school that everything you wrote had to have a conclusion. Well, what they said to you was no-nonsense, and when it comes to writing your article, it is almost as important as the introduction. Don’t leave the reader with honey on the lips. If you start a topic, you have to close it, and if, on top of that, you give your conclusion based on everything you have said before, all the better.
And, of course, make a call to action that invites the user to interact with your post, your content, or your page. Depending on your objectives, it will be one way or another: Did you find what I have told you interesting? Then post a comment and tell me why!
