And this is how Perl Cosmetics was born.
Perl Cosmetics was started in May 2020 and Isobel juggled her full-time job at the Ministry of Defence with Perl Cosmetics until April 2021.
Fast forward to April 2021 and Isobel turned her growing side hustle into a full-time business.
Thanks to the power of social media, particularly Tik Tok, Perl Cosmetics has been a huge success.
Isobel was previously earning £37k at the Ministry of Defence but thanks to social media, Isobel’s best day at Perl Cosmetics saw her turnover double her monthly salary at her previous job in just one day.
Isobel has made over £60k this year thanks to some viral Tik Tok videos and her channel gained over 100,000 followers in just 6 months.
Isobel has documented Perl Cosmetics’ journey on the TikTok account ‘perlcoesmetics’.
Isobel has posted a variety of videos about how the business started and the success of the company.
Isobel said: “I lost my job during the pandemic, but decided to be the master of my own destiny.
“I can’t believe this happened to me because of Covid-19.
“I lost my job at the start of the pandemic and had to move back home with my parents.
“I saw it as an opportunity to follow a dream of mine and using my degree in Biology I formulate natural, handmade British skincare.

“I created the UK’s first customisable pink clay mask.
“Using my degree in Biology and experience of working in a lab, as well as my love for all things skincare, I formulate and hand-make the pearl powder clay masks with illuminating oil.
“Whilst I was doing my market research, consumers told me they found clay masks the wrong texture, too drying or too oily.
“That is what my product solves.
“By being able to alter the amount of oil, you can create a mask to suit your skin’s needs.
“The instant glowing results say it all!”
“And this is how it’s going…
“I’ve made lots of sales and I have over 300 5 star reviews.
“I’ve done in-person photo shoots with models and even more orders to pack.
“And I’ve had amazing studio photography done.
“My biggest flex is starting a million pound skincare business during lockdown.
“I can’t believe I turned the worst thing that happened to me into my biggest opportunity.

“I am so proud of taking a risk and following my dreams.
“So grateful for the journey my life has taken.”
Isobel revealed that Perl Cosmetics Limited Edition Purple Clay Mask made her a whopping “£4,000 in one day.”
She said: “You guys blew me away when I launched our Limited Edition Purple Clay Mask!
“I couldn’t believe the day I had when I launched these back in May.
“10% of all profits go to Mind, the mental health charity too.”
It hasn’t been an easy ride for Isobel, but she encourages others to follow their dreams.
She said: “It’s not been easy, but I know it’s all for a reason.
“Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it.
“I had friends tell me if I couldn’t afford to pay staff I shouldn’t start a business.
“Look at me now.
“This is your sign to never give up.
“You have no idea what is around the corner.”
