Every morning after waking up, and before eating Annie will make homemade celery juice and will drink it.
She believes that it is important to drink it on an empty stomach to make sure you are reaping the benefits from the vegetable juice.
Since Annie has been starting her day with celery juice, she believes it has been “one of the best things” she’s done for her health.
Celery juice is packed with antioxidants which can help to reduce inflammation, clear skin, stimulate hair growth, stabilise mood and reduce memory loss.
The vegetable was initially used as medicine in treatments for toothache, insomnia, hypertension, anxiety, arthritis, rheumatism and to purify the blood.
And previously before this, Ancient Romans used celery as an aphrodisiac.
Annie, who has been vegan for nine years, says her skin has “never been so clearer” since drinking the juice daily.
She uses a blender, and adds a bit of water with its ingredients before straining it through a mesh colander.
Annie says: “Drinking celery juice on an empty stomach every morning helps to naturally increase collagen and smooth the skin.”
Celery is rich in a plant compound called phthalide, which relaxes your artery walls to help blood flow and to lower your blood pressure.
Annie adds: “Celery juice flushes toxins from your liver and helps to restore your central nervous system.
“Celery juice causes your body to quickly flush out bad bacteria in the gut.
“You may notice bloating or loose stools in the beginning, start with a small amount and gradually increase.”
Annie stresses the importance of drinking the celery juice alone on an empty stomach, and be sure to not mix any other ingredients.
She adds: “Don’t even add a squeeze of lemon, or it won’t work as it’s supposed to.”
Fresh celery can be bought for fruit and vegetable market stools, as well as supermarkets for as little as 50p.
Advocates believe that drinking celery juice on an empty stomach may detoxify the body and promote weight loss.

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness and lifestyle brand Goop advises that people should wait 15 minutes after drinking celery juice before consuming anything else.
The Goop website reads: “Celery juice is a medicinal drink, not a caloric one, so you’ll still need breakfast afterward toyou through the morning.
“For even greater benefits or if you suffer from a chronic illness or symptom, consider drinking twenty-four to thirty-two ounces of straight celery juice per day.”
The website recommends drinking it all at once in the morning on an empty stomach or split into two servings.
What are the best anti-ageing foods
- Blueberries: Dr Paulvin’s number one food for longevity is none other than the humble blueberry.
Writing for CNBC, he said the little purple fruit was filled with vitamins and antioxidants that protect your body from infection like a suit of armour, as well as being tasty and low in calories.
According to the longevity researcher, blueberries packed such as powerful anti-ageing punch due to being high in antioxidants called anthocyanins.
These can help keep cells healthy and prevent them from being damaged, while also being involved in processes that repair DNA.
- Tomatoes: According to Sun nutritionist Amanda Ursell, eating tomatoes can help protect our skin from ageing, from the inside out and fight off wrinkles.
That’s because this salad staple – as well as veg like spinach, red peppers, carrots and kale – is loaded with antioxidant pigments called lycopene, lutein, and beta carotene.
- Whole grain foods: According to Amanda Ursell release energy slowly which means they won’t inflict damage to the collagen on our skin.
Foods including porridge, brown pasta and rice and sweet potatoes, are great for this.
Harvard University researchers have also suggested that incorporating whole grains into your diet could help you live longer, as they can help lower the risk of killer conditions like like heart disease, bowel cancer, diabetes, stroke when combined with fruit, non-starchy vegetables, nuts and unsaturated oils.
- Nuts: A handful of nuts is the preferred snack of choice for people living in the Blue Zones, five regions across the world where people regularly live to the age of 100.
London-based nutritionist, Sophie Trotman, sung the praises of nuts when it comes to anti-ageing.
She told Fabulous that nuts such as almonds and walnuts are all rich in vitamin E, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids and contain minerals like zinc that aid in skin renewal.
- Healthy oils: They can also keep your skin looking its best by maintaining its natural oil barrier, Sophie added, hydrating the skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines. Two or three serving of the fish weekly should suffice.
Another source of healthy fats are olive and rapeseed oil, which can aid heart health.
It reads: “If you’re unable to consume your celery juice first thing in the morning before food, then the second-best option is to drink it fifteen to thirty minutes before or after eating something anytime during the day.
“If you’re having thirty-two ounces a day, you may wish to have it in two sixteen-ounce servings.
“You can drink the first in the morning on an empty stomach before eating and the second in the late afternoon or early evening, at least fifteen to thirty minutes before eating your next meal.”
