A recent study of 2,000 people found that half of them experienced ‘gymtimidation,’ or fear of going to the gym. Thirty-one percent felt intimidated by getting in shape altogether, and 48% claim that the number of fitness classes available is overwhelming.
Now, this may not apply to you, but there’s one thing that can make every workout a little easier: working out with a partner. When you workout with a partner, it’s easier to feel accepted, motivated, and dedicated. A partner can ease some of that intimidation; or, you could be the one helping someone else overcome those feelings!
Regardless, there are some benefits to a two-person workout routine. Keep reading for some insight.
1. Alieve the Dreaded ‘Gymtimidation’
If you are, in fact, one of the people who feel intimidated by working out at the gym, having a partner could help.
Perhaps you’re not sure what equipment to use or how to use it. Should you be focusing on reps or weight? If you want to strengthen your back muscles, what exercises are appropriate for you?
This feeling can occur both at the gym and at home, but no one should refrain from movement out of fear! Take a look at this at-home set-up for inspiration, then give your prospective partner a call. If you’ve got a close friend, family member, or even personal trainer that can help, your gym experience will be that much more rewarding and effective.
2. You Can Practice Partner Stretches and Activities
There are some things you just can’t do alone!
For example, several different partner stretches aim to hit those sore or tight spots that solo stretching struggles to get. Maybe you can’t go deep enough to feel the positive effects of a stretch, or you’ve got a strange ache in your back that needs some extra attention.
Partner stretches are a fantastic way to meet your needs and have some fun.
3. There’s No Denying That Motivation Boost
A partner helps hold you accountable.
Maybe you’re good at getting to the gym but not so good at staying there. Do you find yourself leaving early or putting in the minimal effort? Do you need a reason to stay longer, push harder, lift heavier?
Working out with a partner makes all this possible. Enjoy assisting each other, timing each other, spotting each other, and more. While you’re on a break, they do a set, and vise versa. You’ll be helping each other!
Workout With a Partner Today and Reap the Benefits
If you’re struggling to enjoy your workout, you could be missing something.
We’re not talking about a protein shake or a yoga mat, either. We’re talking about a workout buddy!
Our advice is to work out with a partner once and see how you enjoy it. Notice your motivation levels, as well as how you feel when you’re done. A partner may be just the thing you need to crush your gym session.
