Marvel Movies are fun adventures, and as Marvel has earned more than $23 billion at the box office, with the studies profiting roughly $7.1 billion dollars since Iron Man, their first big hit erupted in 2008, Marvel Movies has taken in an average of $716 billion per movie, and that’s only direct movie profits. It doesn’t take into account toy and comic book sales.
So here are some fun facts about Marvel Movies:
#1. Stan Lee appearances
Stan Lee was a terrific comic book creator and well before the Marvel Cinematic Universe was formed, Stan was in the movie business. And one of his little quirks was enjoying showing up in his movies as cameo performances.
Stan actually appeared 37 times in all the Marvel-related movies, and he loved his cameo performances.
#2. Biggest hit
Although many Marvel movies grossed millions, the biggest hit to date in the Marvel Franchise was the Avengers End Game.
The Avengers End Game took in an incredible $ 2,797,800,564 dollars at the box office in 2019.
Avengers Infinity Wars produced took in the number two spot in superhero movies with $2,048,359,754 in 2018 and the Avengers and the Avengers Ultron sit in the number 3 and number 4 spot for superhero movies.
Only James Cameron’s Avatar took in more money than Avengers End Game.
#3, Never won a major academy award
Although Marvel has produced movies watched by millions throughout the world, it has never garnered an academy award other than Black Panther, which won academy awards for Best Costume Design, Best original score, and Best Production Design.
No actor or actress, certainly not Robert Downey Jr, not Brie Larson, nor Chris Hemsworth, have ever been even nominated for an academy award.
#4. Most Expensive Marvel Movie Budget
Although they did take in a ton of money, reports are that Avengers the Age of Ultron had a film budget of $365 million, while Avengers Endgame and Avengers Infinity Wars were not far behind, budgeting at $356 and $325 million respectively.
Most Hollywood movies are budgeted at around a total, including print costs, distribution, and marketing are around $100 million dollars.
#5. Highest paid actor
Believe it or not, first-time actors or actresses in the Marvel franchise get paid peanuts, relatively speaking for acting in a Marvel Movie.
For example, Tom Holland of Spiderman was paid $500,000, about the same salary as
Robert Downey Jr.s first outing.
In fact, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Brie Larson, acting in 2019s Captain Marvel was the highest-paid first-timer with a salary of around $5 million.
But how high have their salaries risen? Supposedly Charlotte Johanson received approximately $20 million for her Black Widow character, while Robert Downey Jr, including back-end deals, now commands a salary of from $50 to $75 million dollars per movie.
It seems, and rightly so, that the more profitable the movie, the higher the salaries tend to go.
So don’t worry about actors like Jeremy Renner, or Samuel L. Jackson, they all cashed in plenty.
#6. Least profitable movie
Not all Marvel movies are blockbusters.
Movies such as Howard the Duck, Electra, Blade Trinity, and both Nicholas Cage Ghost Rider movies barely recouped their production budget or even lost money.
2017’s Marvel Movie Inhhumans, was only released in 393 theatres nationwide and took in a measly $1.5 million dollars.
This just goes to show that even the Marvel name is no guarantee of profits. If a movie is no good, people will stay away.
#7. Which star has appeared in the most Marvel movies?
Not surprisingly, that boast goes to Samuel L. Jackson who has appeared in 11 Marvel Movies.
Samuel L. Jackson is, of course, Mr do-it-all in Hollywood, so it’s not surprising to find out he has had a feature role in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and finally, Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Actor Chris Evans has also appeared in 11 Marvel Blockbusters, including The First Avenger, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, and a painful end of his run as Captain America in Avengers: Endgame.
He also appeared in post-credit scenes in Antman and Captain Marvel.
Which star to watch out for next in her own Marvel movie?
Zendaya is one smart cookie, and if she doesn’t start her own clothing line, she certainly will be looking to have her own franchise with Marvel as more and more women such as Scarlet Johannsen and Gal Gadot are enjoying the limelight of superheroes in upcoming new movies this week.Â
Though she currently earns around $2 million for her role in Spiderman, 25-year-old Zendaya may in the future strike out on her own, and reach for a $15 plus million dollar plus salary like boyfriend Tom Holland.
