In 2019, $1.1 trillion was spent on travel, but this number decreased in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people are ready to travel again now that vaccines are rolling out, but has the travel industry changed? The answer is yes.
Although no one knows for sure what the outcome of 2021 will be, there are many predictions for travel abroad and staycations. Read on to find out more.
Summertime Traveling
Because the COVID-19 vaccine is going to take some time to roll out to most Americans, travel will most likely pick up during the summer. This gives the government more time to vaccinate as many people as they can.
This goes for Americans traveling abroad and even just traveling within the United States. There may be some benefits of traveling abroad as many countries are requiring people to have a negative COVID-19 test before entering a flight.
Road Tripping!
While a few international borders are still closed, some are itching to get out of their comfort zone. Although they are unable to travel abroad, they can road trip to somewhere else in the United States. Domestic destinations will continue to be a big deal until international travel opens up more.
Domestic traveling during COVID is beneficial for those who have been unable to visit their families due to the virus. As vaccines are beginning to roll out to those at higher risk, families are more likely to drive to see their relatives in another state.
International Travel
The best way to travel abroad is obviously on a flight, but not every country is allowing people to come in right now. However, with the vaccines being passed out, international travel is expected to pick up during this year.
When you can travel abroad again, it won’t look the same as it did before the pandemic. One change you can probably count on is that passengers will need to get vaccinated or have a negative COVID-19 test a few days prior.
There may be a new space on passports for a stamp that proves any COVID related documentation. As people from the United States will be ready to flock to another country when the borders open, the opposite will happen for United States visitors.
Retreats
A lot of people used quarantine as a time to reflect. Because of this, people will be ready to go on soul-searching trips this year. A lot of holy places will interest travelers in 2021.
This pandemic has also made people realize how short life can be. When traveling opens up across the globe, we expect to see many getting out of their comfort zones by attending pandemic retreats.
When It’s Time, Travel Abroad!
Because many of us were locked away in our homes for so long, we are all itching to get out into the world. When vaccines make their way around and borders begin opening up, it is expected that many people will be ready to hop on a place. We’ve had enough of the staycation, it’s time to travel abroad!
